We’ve worked with hundreds of affiliates across YouTube, Instagram, blogs, and newsletters. After reviewing hundreds of pieces of content and analyzing what actually generates clicks and sales, we’ve put together this guide to help you improve performance and earn more from your content.
This guide covers best practices for:
Our goal is simple: help you create content that performs better and earns you more commission.
YouTube Best Practices
We’ve analyzed hundreds of our affiliates’ YouTube videos. Here’s what we’ve seen work best.
1. Video Length: Aim for 3–6 Minutes
Many of the best-performing videos were in the 3–4 minute range.
Why this works:
- YouTube prioritizes watch time and retention
- If viewers watch most (or all) of your video, YouTube is more likely to recommend it
- Shorter, high-quality videos often outperform longer videos with drop-off
Tip:
Cut filler. Get to the point quickly. High-retention videos outperform long videos.
A simple video structure that works well:
- Hook (first 10 seconds)
- What the video is about
- Product overview
- Pros
- Cons
- Who it’s for
- Call to action
2. Titles That Perform Well
The videos that performed best typically included one or more of the following:
- Brand name
- Product name
- The word “Review”
- A curiosity-driven hook
Examples:
- Bag Boy Nitron Push Cart Review (2026)
- Testing Rory McIlroy’s Favorite Driver
- 3 Items Every Golfer MUST HAVE This Winter
Tip:
Think of YouTube titles like Google search results — people search for reviews, comparisons, and tests.
3. Description Optimization (Very Important for SEO)
Your YouTube video can show up in Google search results, not just YouTube — so your description matters a lot.
Make sure your description includes
Keywords
Use search-friendly phrases like:
- [Product Name] review
- Best golf push cart
- Best golf rain jacket
- Golf push cart review
- Golf driver comparison
- Ben Hogan Irons Review
If you need help with keywords, contact shannon@revitdigital.co.
Timestamps
Timestamps help viewers navigate your video and improve user experience.
Example:
- 00:00 Intro
- 00:30 First Impressions
- 01:10 Features
- 02:00 On Course Test
- 03:00 Pros
- 03:40 Cons
- 04:10 Final Verdict
Put Your Affiliate Link “Above the Fold”
Your affiliate link should be near the top of the description so viewers don’t have to click “show more.”
Example:
🛒 Shop the [product] here: [Affiliate Link]
💰 Use code GOLF10 for 10% off
Hashtags
Add hashtags at the bottom of your description. The best-performing videos often included hashtags like:
#golf
#golfgear
#golfreview
#golfyoutube
#golfproducts
#golfequipment
4. Engage With Comments
We consistently see better performance on videos where creators:
- Respond to comments
- Like comments
- Answer questions
This signals to YouTube that your video is generating engagement.
5. Create Playlists
Playlists are very underutilized and very powerful.
Create playlists like:
- Push Cart Reviews
- Golf Simulator Reviews
- Golf Bag Reviews
- Golf Apparel Reviews
- On Course Vlogs
When one video ends, YouTube will often autoplay another video from your playlist — which increases your total views and watch time.
Instagram Best Practices
1. Organic Product Inclusion Performs Best
The best-performing Instagram content does not feel like an ad.
Instead, it feels like your normal content — with the product naturally included.
Examples:
- “Walk 9 holes with me”
- “What’s in my golf bag”
- “Gear I actually use”
- “Practice session”
- “Come to the course with me”
- “Sunday bag setup”
- “Tournament prep”
The product is present — but the story/content comes first.
2. Make It Easy for People to Buy
Instagram is designed to keep you in the app. The easier you make it for your audience to buy from you, the better.
We’ve seen the best results from…
- Discount codes called out in the caption
- Discount codes called out in the reel
- Utilizing an auto-DM tool to send affiliate links
- This works by your audience member commenting a word…(e.g. Push cart) and a link will automatically be sent their way
- Tools:
- Manychat
- Superprofile (free)
- Adding the code in your bio
If people have to search for the product, many won’t.
Note: don’t put a full link in your bio/comments. Instagram tends to de-prioritize posts that do this!
3. Use Instagram Story Features
Instagram Stories are one of the highest-converting placements.
Use:
- Add a link sticker with your affiliate link
- Add product (this is a new feature—learn how to use it here!)
- Create an instagram stories highlight with all your affiliate codes
Stories feel personal and often convert better than feed posts.
4. Recurring Product Inclusion
The affiliates who generate the most sales do not post about a product just once.
They:
- Use the product repeatedly
- Include it in multiple videos
- Mention it casually over time
This makes it feel like: “This is actually part of their routine”
instead of “This is an ad.”
This builds trust and increases conversions.
5. Tag Our Brands
Please tag our brand when you post!
We often:
- Share affiliate content
- Comment on posts
- Run paid ads using affiliate content (with your consent, of course)
- Feature affiliates in emails and blogs
Tagging us helps us help you.
Blog / Website / Publication Best Practices
1. SEO-Optimized Articles
Our top affiliates typically create SEO-focused content that ranks on Google and generates passive traffic.
The best affiliates build content clusters.
Example Content Cluster (Push Carts)
Pillar Article:
- Best Golf Push Carts (2026)
Supporting Articles:
- Bag Boy Nitron Review
- Clicgear Push Cart Review
- Bag Boy vs Clicgear
- Best Push Carts for Walking Golfers
- Are Push Carts Worth It?
All of these articles link to each other and build authority.

2. Repurpose Your Content
Top affiliates do not create content once — they repurpose it.
One product review can become:
- YouTube video
- Instagram Reel
- Instagram Story
- Newsletter post
- Pinterest post
- Comparison article
More content = more traffic = more affiliate revenue.
3. Exit Intent Pop-Ups Convert Extremely Well
If you have a discount code, use an exit-intent pop-up on your site.
Example:
“Wait! Before you go — use code GOLF10 for 10% off.”
This captures visitors who were about to leave and can significantly increase conversions.

4. Prioritize Our Website Links Over Amazon
If you link to Amazon, commission is typically around ~3%.
If you link to our website:
- Higher commission
- Higher average order value
- More opportunities for bonuses, gifting, and collaborations
If there’s anything we can do to help you prioritize our links (codes, landing pages, bundles, etc.), let us know — we’re happy to work with you.
General Affiliate Best Practices (Across All Platforms)
What the Most Successful Affiliates Do:
Across YouTube, Instagram, and blogs, the affiliates who generate the most sales typically:
- Post consistently
- Include the product in multiple pieces of content
- Educate their audience (not just promote)
- Compare products
- Use clear calls to action
- Make it easy to purchase
- Respond to comments and messages
- Build content around search (YouTube + Google)
- Repurpose content across platforms
- Build trust with their audience first
The biggest mistake we see:
Posting about a product once, with no clear call to action, and no link visibility.
The biggest success factor we see:
Affiliates who integrate the product into their content over time.
When Your Content Goes Live
Please let us know when your content is live!
We can:
- Engage with your post
- Share it on our social channels
- Include it in emails
- Feature it on our website
- Potentially run ads to your content (with your consent)
- Potentially provide backlinks
We want our partnership to be successful for both sides — the more your content performs, the more opportunities we can create together.
